This year the Festival Weekend will be on 9th and 10th September 2017

12 – 5pm, 9th September:  Extra Large Spon Spun Summer on the grass near The Rose Community Centre.  Food provided by The Men’s Shed and lots of creative activities for all the family to get involved with.  Join us for a creative Spon Spun Summer afternoon!

12 – 6:30pm, 10th September: Art Trail around Spon End followed by the Spon Spun Big Party Picnic

Artists and creative groups will be taking to the streets of Spon End to celebrate the heritage and stories of Spon End. Coventry’s renowned Theatre Company, Talking Birds (creators of The Whale, We Love You City and Three Doctors) will be inviting you into the mysterious world of Backstage! Will the Stage Door Keeper dish the dirt on the Leading Man? Will the disgruntled Assistant Stage Manager bring the show to a crashing end from Prompt Corner? And is the Green Room actually green? *

You will also have a chance to take in some great new work inspired by the people of Spon End and created especially for Spon Spun.  Exciting new digital artist Antonio Roberts will be showing work inspired by the pupils of Spongate Primary, HA (Rob Hamp and Andrea Hannon) will be showing work created especially for the customers of the Oasis Cafe and writer Kalbinder Dayal will be producing new work inspired by conversations at Coventry MIND drop-in.

Look out along the trail for the luckiest tree in Spon End which will be adorned with the magnificent creations of Ruth and Adrian Spaark and members of the community during their workshops on 27th July and 7th September (see the workshops page for more details).   As well as welcoming many artists to Spon End, a number of our local organisations will be opening their doors for the Art Trail, which is also part of the Heritage Open Days event.  This includes of course the Weaver’s House, and also Holyhead Studios, where the artist studios will be open to visitors.

*Performance tours will take place on Sun 10th Sept at 11am, 12pm, 2pm, 3pm, 4pm. Free and suitable for all ages. Captions (subtitles) available via the Difference Engine on Mobile devices (pls e-mail in advance).

After the Art Trail join us for good food and music at the Big Party Picnic, where you can also admire the fabulous platters and picnic blankets made in the craft workshops over the summer.  There may even be a chance to buy one to take home at the end of the evening!
